Created for you - not mass-produced through cheap labour

Bijoux de Chagall is a small, independent jewellery studio. We do not mass-produce large quantities of identical products, and we do not build our business around cheap or child labour in third-party countries.

Our jewellery is created through skilled, specialist services, primarily using trusted UK suppliers and craftspeople who are paid properly for their expertise. This inevitably costs more than anonymous, high-volume factory production - but it allows us to retain control over quality, working practices and the individual character of every piece.

Rather than producing thousands of identical rings according to passing trends, we offer an unusually varied collection of artistic designs. This gives you the freedom to choose jewellery that reflects your own personality and style.

Most of our jewellery is made to order, individually adapted, personalised or custom-created for its owner. By the time your finished piece reaches you, numerous skilled, order-specific services have already been completed and paid for. These services cannot be returned or refunded to us if a customer later changes their mind.

What happens after you place your order?

1. Your design is individually prepared

Every order begins with careful design work. Even gemstones described as having the same shape or carat weight can vary in their exact millimetre measurements.

Our existing CAD design may therefore need to be manually adjusted to accommodate your chosen gemstone, metal, design options and ring size. For custom orders, the design may be developed or recreated especially for you.

There is no automatic “magic button” for this process. Each adjustment requires time, specialist knowledge and individual attention.

2. Your jewellery is 3D printed and cast

Once the design is ready, it is prepared for specialist 3D printing and casting in your chosen solid gold.

The cost of this stage includes far more than the precious metal itself. It includes the skilled technical processes required to transform a digital design into a real piece of fine jewellery.

3. Your piece is independently hallmarked

Where required, your jewellery is sent to a UK Assay Office for independent testing and hallmarking.

We often use a priority hallmarking service to reduce production time, so your ring does not spend several additional weeks waiting at this stage.

4. Your jewellery is finished by hand

The casting returns to our studio in its unfinished form. Every surface and small detail must then be carefully cleaned, refined and polished.

Your gemstones are set, the final finish is applied and the complete piece is inspected before it is ready to be worn.

5. Your order is beautifully presented

We use carefully chosen jewellery boxes and premium packaging so that receiving your piece feels as special as the jewellery itself - whether it is an engagement ring, a meaningful gift or something chosen to mark your own story.

What you receive in return

In return for this individual process, you receive something genuinely special: a piece of jewellery created with enormous care, passion, positive intention and artistic vision—not a standard product reproduced thousands of times on a factory production line.

Every piece begins as an artistic idea and is then individually prepared, created, finished and inspected for its future owner. Our jewellery is designed to carry character and meaning, becoming something you can wear and love for many years—and perhaps one day pass on to someone special.

Because we create our designs in very small numbers, you are unlikely to see the same piece being worn everywhere. Where an individually selected gemstone has its own colour, inclusions, pattern or cut, the finished jewellery is often genuinely one of a kind. Even when a design is recreated, natural and laboratory-grown gemstones have their own individual characteristics, while the precise adaptations made for each order mean that no two pieces need feel entirely identical.

This individuality is one of the greatest differences between independent, Made-to-Order jewellery and mass-produced jewellery. You are not simply purchasing gold and gemstones: you are commissioning a small piece of wearable art, created especially for you and intended to become part of your own story.

The invisible work and community behind independent jewellery

Behind every piece of Bijoux de Chagall jewellery is a wider community of skilled people and specialist businesses.

Wherever possible, we proudly work with and support other independent UK businesses, craftspeople and trusted local suppliers. Our jewellery-making depends upon many specialist services, including CAD preparation, 3D printing, casting, hallmarking, gemstone setting, engraving, tools, packaging and secure delivery.

For certain gemstones and specialist materials that are not readily available in the UK, we also work with carefully selected, long-established international jewellery suppliers whose expertise, quality and reliability we trust.

Choosing reputable specialists and properly paid skilled services costs more than anonymous, high-volume production. However, it enables us to maintain the quality of our jewellery while helping other specialist businesses and traditional skills to continue.

There are also many less visible services behind an independent jewellery studio: professional equipment, design software, photography, website services, customer communication, administrative tools and the numerous digital systems required to operate a modern jewellery business.

These costs form part of keeping specialist craftsmanship, original design and independent jewellery-making alive.

The true cost of being visible as an independent artist

There is also another substantial but often invisible part of the cost of independent jewellery: marketing.

Bijoux de Chagall must compete for visibility within an enormous and highly competitive jewellery market, alongside major international brands with vast advertising budgets, large teams and worldwide name recognition.

For a small independent studio, professional photography, website services, advertising, social media content and the many digital tools required to reach customers represent a significant proportion of our overall costs. 

These are not unnecessary extras. Without them, the people who may genuinely love and value our jewellery would simply never discover us.

Large companies can spread these expenses across thousands - or millions - of mass-produced products. As independent artists creating jewellery in very small numbers, we do not have that advantage.

Our prices therefore reflect not only gold and gemstones, but the complete reality of creating and sustaining an ethical, specialist jewellery business: original design, skilled UK services, responsible production, individual craftsmanship, customer care and the considerable cost of being seen in a market dominated by much larger companies.

By choosing Bijoux de Chagall, you are not only commissioning an individually created piece of jewellery. You are also helping us support a network of skilled people, specialist suppliers and other independent businesses whose work makes that jewellery possible.

Why we cannot offer a simple change-of-mind refund

When a piece has been made, adapted or personalised for an individual customer, much of its value has already been invested in specialist services that cannot be recovered:

• Individual CAD preparation and design adjustments
• Specialist 3D printing and casting
• Precious metals and gemstones selected for the order
• Assay Office testing and hallmarking
• Hand-finishing, gemstone setting and polishing
• Presentation packaging and order preparation
• Marketing this piece so you will be able to discover it in the first place before ordering.

Unlike a mass-produced product returned to a large retailer, an individually commissioned ring cannot simply be placed back into general stock as though nothing has happened.

Regularly absorbing all of these costs following a change of mind would make it impossible for a small artistic jewellery studio like ours to continue creating such a wide variety of distinctive designs.

Our Order with Confidence promise

Although personalised, custom and individually made pieces are not eligible for a standard change-of-mind refund, we want you to feel secure when ordering from us.

Before production, we carefully follow the specifications selected or agreed with you. We aim to create your jewellery as closely as possible to its description, photographs, design images and confirmed details.

If your made-to-order piece is not quite right for you, we offer a 100% credit note towards another piece or an agreed custom alternative, subject to the conditions set out in our Returns Policy. This allows us to work towards a solution that makes you happy without losing the specialist work already invested in your original order.

This policy does not affect your statutory rights. If an item is faulty, damaged on arrival, incorrectly supplied or materially not as described, please contact us promptly so that we can put it right in accordance with applicable consumer law.

Our intention is to be open about what goes into every order and why independently made jewellery cannot always be treated in the same way as a mass-produced purchase.
